Texas Wesleyan IABC Hosts Meeting on March 3 TCU To Host Free Journalism and Mass Communication Conference Feb. 7
The Texas Wesleyan Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators plays host to Wesleyan alumnus, John M. Gonzales, at its regular meeting on March 3 in the Baker Building at noon.
Gonzales, community outreach coordinator at Texas Wesleyan, will discuss his career following graduation from Wesleyan with a mass communication degree in 2005. Gonzales previously hosted his own radio talk show, Tejano Talk, and served as director of communications at Nolan High School.
The Baker Building is located at the intersections of Rosedale and Wesleyan. Everyone is invited to attend.
Colley Presents Paper at National Association of Hispanic and Latino Studies Conference
Dr. Kay L. Colley, assistant professor of mass communication at Texas Wesleyan University, presented a case study of the Hispanic Wellness Fair at the NAHLS conference in Baton Rouge, La., on Feb. 13.
The Hispanic Wellness Fair was established in 1999 and won the Best Community Service Project from the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) in 2005.
The presentation was a 45-minute preview of Colley's paper of the same name Best practices for community relations: Case study of the Hispanic Wellness Fair. Colley was acting director of marketing and communications at the University of North Texas Health Science Center when the community relations project received the top award from the AACOM.

The Society of Professional Journalists and TCU's Schieffer School play host to a mini-conference this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. where students and young professionals can meet and greet D/FW professionals.
The conference is free to anyone who RSVP's to Dr. Jack Raskopf at jraskopf2@charter.net. The conference will take place at the Moudy Communication Center, located on TCU Campus at University Drive South and Cantey Street. Parking is available in the rear of the building.

Colley Elected to 2009-2011 Board of Directors of SWECJMC
Dr. Kay L. Colley, assistant professor of mass communication at Texas Wesleyan University, was elected to the Board of Directors for the Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication.
The organization consists of faculty members at institutions of higher education who work to strengthen journalism and mass communication teaching, research and service in the Southwestern region of the United States. Member states include Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas and Utah.
SWECJMC is a regional affiliate of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Colley will serve a two-year term.
