Position

The Ellis Kennedy Internship was launched in 2002 as an opportunity for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience with industry professionals while earning college credit. Internships are for-credit positions and the qualified candidate must be a declared major in public relations, journalism or mass communications and currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. The selected intern should be prepared to dedicate at least 15-20 hours per week to his/her role at the agency in order to feel the full pact that the internship can provide. Experience at the college newspaper or any other on-campus medium, college public affairs/relations, is a plus.

The internship will be structured to follow a three-month plan.

Required Qualifications:

Selected candidates will assist Account Executives and Supervisors with any aspect of program or project execution while learning basic skills in public relations such as research; media list development, news scanning and monitoring, clipping, PR writing and pitch development. Interns will also have the opportunity to contribute to the agency’s blog and other social media platforms.  

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and improve editorial writing skills used to create press materials and news releases.

  • Attend weekly client calls and transcribe notes.

  • Assist in conceptualizing editor gifts, promotions and campaigns for respective clients.

  • Develop an understanding of social media and how it’s used in an agency setting.

  • Learn to operate various media directory services to verify information and assure accuracy of media materials and contacts.

  • Assist event coordinator in budget creation, vendor recruitment and run of show development.

  • Research media outlets (including bloggers) as it pertains to specific clients.

  • Assist in gathering information for media audits.

  • Research and compare competitive estimates for services from vendors.

  • Assist AE’s in brainstorms, pitch development and daily media monitoring.

  • Manage product inventory and update spreadsheets on a weekly basis.

  • Assist AE’s and Supervisors in gathering clips/placements and mailing to clients.
